Louis Virtel [AD].

Louis Virtel And we’re back with an all-new episode of Keep It. I remain Louis Virtel. And you know what I’m not nominated for right now? A Golden Globe for Best Podcast. I know you’re all thinking about it and how unjust the world is. Only because of this, no other reason. And I’m hoping we get through it together. But luckily, I’m not alone. Today we have a fellow pop culture connoisseur. And by the way, this man is in the trenches. I we’re gonna talk about his content at BravoCon. I mean, truly World War II shit. Yeah. But you know him from Netflix, it’s the circle, but otherwise, he’s delightful and a fabulous commentator. Please welcome Courtney Revolution to Keep It.

Courtney Revolution It’s meeeeeeee.

Louis Virtel Oh, I’m in the revolution.

Courtney Revolution You’re literally in the revolution. You’re part of it now. You’re one of the people of the revolution.

Louis Virtel No, it’s like Prince and the revolution, yes.

Courtney Revolution Literally that. I’m having some assless shops. Literally that.

Louis Virtel So you were at BravoCon. You’re a huge Bravo fan, period.

Courtney Revolution I love Bravo.

Louis Virtel But you were on a reality show. When you go and meet these people in person, do you worry about breaking the illusion of liking them from afar?

Courtney Revolution Not anymore.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution It just felt weird. Like I’ve always been the audience member and then it was like I liked reality T V so much I went on it. And then when I go to things involving reality talent, sometimes they’re like, Why are you holding a microphone? Yeah. And I’m like, Well girl, I’m here to get the tea. If you watch the show, I was there to get the tea. And now in real life I’m still here to get the tea. The job didn’t change. You know? So sometimes people are confused, but as long as I’m not, it doesn’t really matter. So fun.

Louis Virtel Who was most thrilling and I’ll say least disappointing to meet at BravoCon?

Courtney Revolution Stacy Rush. From Real Housewives of Potomac. She is one of the newer Housewives, QVC host, as far as like her career in the past. Her improv skills are top notch. The way that the ladies try to jump her verbally and she’s able to just sort of wiggle out of everything. I live for her. She’s so perfectly unserious.

Louis Virtel Well, QVC is like serious training. They’re like, be prepared for anything. You have no idea who’s gonna call and what state they’re in. You know.

Courtney Revolution Like she was ready. Like I had a messy question and immediately I got to see the Stacy effect of how she just she gave an answer, but was it?

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution But was it an answer? And I was just standing there like yes. Stacy, just evade the question. This is great.

Louis Virtel You just put your finger on something good. It’s it’s not that they give you the tea, it’s that it’s still thrilling even while they’re being diplomatic.

Courtney Revolution Just be yourself. Be the person that I think you are on the show. And I’m fed.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution And I left that carpet full as hell.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution I was like, oh, y’all are all this. This is like real. I’m living for it, talking to my green spatula. So yeah, I BravoCon was, shout out to NBC. They ate that.

Louis Virtel Now, equally chaotic and delightful, the Golden Globe nominations came out this week. Now, the Golden Globes, once upon a time, it was just a fun, racist organization where we didn’t know what movies they had heard of, what TV shows they had seen, what bribes they had taken. It was a lot of fun. Now we’re in this new woke era where they seem to have some people who actually belong in the room who have seen all the materials. So you never know what they’re gonna come up with. And that’s also fun too. Was there anything in the Golden Globe nominations that particularly delighted you? I have a couple of favorites in the running.

Courtney Revolution Well, I really did enjoy Sinners so much that I actually saw it twice. And I don’t see movies twice, and especially in the theater. Yeah. But it was like two groups of friends and they were like, Oh, let’s see Sinners. And I was like, Oh, well, I saw it already. And they were like, Come again. And I said, Where’s my popcorn? I really enjoyed that film. Also, I enjoyed Wicked for Good. How did you feel about Wicked for Good? The girlies are upset.

Louis Virtel Yeah, well, I’ll say this. The skills of the actresses involved are not to be questioned. Cynthia, I actually thought gave a very emotional performance during the for good number, which I actually underestimated. I just wanted to hear that song. I didn’t think of it as a big acting moment. And Ariana Grande, you know, amusing, charming. I just felt like it was a five-hour movie that felt like half a movie. You know?

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel It’s like if you started any musical at the halfway point. Like if you broke Funny Girl into two parts and the second part was just about her husband handles money poorly. You know, it’s just not really a cinematic moment.

Courtney Revolution We’re wrapping it up.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution We’re wrapping it up. I think I went into the theater feeling that way. I was like, okay, give me the conclusion. Let’s wrap this up so that Ariana can hit the stage because I have my ticket. And I left the theater feeling like, okay.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Lots of people didn’t leave the theater feeling like, okay, they were still hungry.

Louis Virtel Yes, right. They they weren’t even whelmed.

Courtney Revolution What did you want more from Wicked?

Louis Virtel I just thought it was low on energy. This to me felt like it could have been recorded in a studio in Van Nuys. Like people standing around, like following Covid regulations, not really looking at one another. Jeff Goldblum just wandering in, being Jeff Goldblum.

Courtney Revolution I thought it was entertaining. Worthy of a Golden Globe?

Louis Virtel I mean, like it’s weird that it was not nominated for the best motion picture musical or comedy trophy. That said, it’s weird what was, because Marty Supreme, which is a very taut, uncut gems like drama, is funny on accident, I’ll say three or four times, but is otherwise a drama. And. One Battle After Another, which is a violent action thriller, is being treated here like it’s fucking Mrs. Doubtfire.

Courtney Revolution Not Mrs. Doubtfire. I liked that movie.

Louis Virtel What?

Courtney Revolution Cute movie. One battle after another.

Louis Virtel Oh no, it’s it was it was great and very entertaining and I think has no competition when it comes to best picture. Like it’s going to stomp to victory this year. But otherwise, you know what I am fucking psyched for? What is Rose Byrne is nominated for Best Actress in a motion picture drama for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Now we have

Courtney Revolution Pause. If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You. Never heard of her. What is that about? There’s a real housewife that pulled her leg off. Yes. And and she tossed it. It is a And that’s immediately a Viva Dresher come to the stage. That’s immediately what I thought of. Unfortunately, it’s not a biopic, but

Louis Virtel It is also it’s actually a very weird title. It’s never like uttered in the film or anything, but it’s a woman, she’s a mother and going through postpartum something, but it’s a f it’s like a motherhood as hell movie. You never see the kid, they’re just kind of nagging off screen and her life like unspools and becomes unmanageable. And you’re just watching Rose Byrne react with like increasingly monstrous exasperation throughout the movie. It’s like the camera’s never not on her, so she has to run the whole fucking movie.

Courtney Revolution With one leg? Or she got both legs the whole film?

Louis Virtel She has both legs, which is confusing to the viewer.

Courtney Revolution I thought it was giving pirate. I thought she had like a little stick leg.

Louis Virtel She is not Blackbeard. No, no.

Courtney Revolution Okay. But still fascinating.

Louis Virtel Yes. Also, it’s an incredibly frustrating movie. So it’s a movie you you really appreciate once it’s over, because it it’s like choking you the entire time.

Courtney Revolution Mm-hmm.

Louis Virtel You know, but like she really runs that movie. And I feel like the other performances in this category, I haven’t seen Sentimental Value yet. And actually Tessa Thompson ran head up. But the other performances in this movie are like not quite as engaging. I mean, Rose is just unbelievably fabulous, and she always has been. In fact, I don’t understand why Rose Byrne is still underrated. Who’s your favorite underrated actress full stop? Oh God. Well, that’s a very difficult question. You know, actually, I’ll say Rose Byrne right now. I think her problem is, and people like Tony Collette have this issue, Julianne Moore has this issue, they kind of belong in everything. So you don’t think of them for one specific project. And I think in a way, it’s easy to be underrated when you’re kind of comfortably good at a lot of different things.

Courtney Revolution I was gonna say that’s not she’s good.

Louis Virtel You know.

Courtney Revolution Yeah, ’cause you can fit in so many different genres.

Louis Virtel As opposed to just being a dramatic actress, those people I tend to think of just winning Oscars. You know, when Glenn Close is in a movie, yeah, I’m like, Go hard bitch. You know. But Rose Burns, it’s like go hard, go soft, you know, be funny, be not funny. She has lots of options. Who’s your favorite underrated actress?

Courtney Revolution My favorite underrated actress is Queen Latifah.

Louis Virtel She’s been fabulous a number of times.

Courtney Revolution I love Queen Latifah.

Louis Virtel Remember when she brought down the house?

Courtney Revolution Can you please? Can I tell you my favorite Queen Latifah movie that everybody hates?

Louis Virtel Are you gonna say Set It Off?

Courtney Revolution No. I have to set it off on DVD.

Louis Virtel Oh I bet.

Courtney Revolution Oh that’s a classic in my home. Taxi.

Louis Virtel I coulda guessed taxi.

Courtney Revolution Everyone hates Taxi and I will fight everyone. I saw that in the theater as a child and I lived for her.

Louis Virtel Well, it’s hard to summort all of the cinematic output of Jimmy Fallon, but No, she’s great in that movie. Also, I mean her big scene in Chicago, she was nominated for an Oscar for a reason.

Courtney Revolution I’ve never seen Chicago. I gotta see Chicago then.

Louis Virtel Excuse, excuse me. This is keep it. You have not seen the movie Chicago.

Courtney Revolution Nor.

Louis Virtel . Honey. I’m gonna I’m gonna push a DVD into your hands. And like like a librarian. Come on. Physical media. That’s right. And you’re gonna run out. Yes, right. You’re gonna watch it at the library next to the microfiche. It is an amazing movie. 2002 Best Picture Winner.

Courtney Revolution Oh, I’m late.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution I’m late.

Louis Virtel Also, what are we doing with Queen Latifah recently?

Courtney Revolution I don’t know.

Louis Virtel She was equalizing for a bit.

Courtney Revolution I know Queen Latifah is known for having really good hair. Unfortunately, the equalizer, God bless my dad’s soul, he loved that show.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution But I haven’t heard anything.

Louis Virtel No.

Courtney Revolution I want to see more of Queen Latifah.

Louis Virtel Last holiday? That holds up?

Courtney Revolution That’s a great, fantastic film.

Louis Virtel This just in it turns out Queen Latifah is also working on a biopic of herself, as in she’s not playing Bessie Smith, somebody is playing Queen Latifah.

Courtney Revolution Now who are we gonna get to play Queen Latifah?

Louis Virtel And also, what do we get to learn about Queen Latifah? ‘Cause we all have a question or two.

Courtney Revolution I wanna learn the Living Single story.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution How did Queen Latifah get involved with Living Single and what was it like when it ended? Because we know that there was beef between Living Single and Friends, which I was forced to watch for a job but have never watched on my own.

Louis Virtel And I also want to know who put her in the outfit on the Fresh Prince of Belair ’cause honey, it was fabulous.

Courtney Revolution I forgot Queen Latifah was on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when she had the straws in her mouth.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution Queen Latifah’s had a great career.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Queen, expedite this film.

Louis Virtel We need this, but I’m just saying, like when we had that Whitney biopic and there were some, you know, rumblings of Whitney’s like queer life, I’m like, Are we gonna get any of that in here?

Courtney Revolution Hmmm. I feel like I would want to see that.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I’m sure media outlets will probably try to like make it seem like the movie will have that content in it. But will the movie have that content in it? Queen Latifah seems to be very private about her personal life.

Louis Virtel Nobody loves privacy more than a celebrity lesbian. Honey is Fort Knox every time. Jodie Foster for a hundred years was like, Yes, I go skiing with a woman. And she wouldn’t tell you what the hell was going on in the slopes.

Courtney Revolution Nothing that we needed to know about.

Louis Virtel I fuckin guess

Courtney Revolution She said mind your business. That’s my business.

Louis Virtel But we didn’t do that. Like we have the same questions, Jodie.

Courtney Revolution Damn it, Jodie. Well, I’m excited for Queen Latifah biopic. Yes, that’d be fabulous. I don’t know who I would want to play her, but they have to be funny, charismatic, and I want to see someone new.

Louis Virtel I guess they would have to be new because everybody I can think of is probably already too old for it. Because it’s like Queen Latifah started out really young when she was a rapper, she was like twenty years old.

Courtney Revolution Mm-hmm.

Louis Virtel So does that person exist or whatever? We already got Naomi Aki, I who by the way I thought was amazing in the Whitney biopic. And she’s also really good in this movie, sorry baby, which Eva Victor was nominated for a best actress award for. She’s great in that movie too. But yeah, I guess so newcomer, please understand the catalog of Queen Latifah. Please watch the movie Chicago.

Courtney Revolution That’s necessary.

Louis Virtel And do a great job. Yes.

Courtney Revolution You have to watch Chicago. I’m gonna do that before this week is out.

Louis Virtel Okay, good. I’m glad I’ve scared you. Okay, now elsewhere on this episode, we have a lot going on today. The year is wrapping up, so Courtney and I are gonna talk about just the best celebrity gossip that we got this year, which was plentiful. I also lived through some of it. I write for a show called Jimmy Kimmel Live, so we’ll talk about that scandal, etcetera.

Courtney Revolution Whoa.

Louis Virtel I know, are you scared? Yeah, you should be worried.

Courtney Revolution I want the tea.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I gotta be patient for the T. We have to get through.

Louis Virtel We’ll get there.

Courtney Revolution The pre T before the T T.

Louis Virtel Also we’ll get into our Spotify wrapped, our Apple music wrapped, and the music we actually listened to this year.

Courtney Revolution Are you an Apple music-er?

Louis Virtel I am what we call a millennial. So I am married to easy to use apps that dovetail nicely with my phone technology.

Courtney Revolution Okay.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I’m a Spotifier.

Louis Virtel Okay, we’re fighting.

Courtney Revolution What’s wrong with Spotify?

Louis Virtel No, I think nothing. I think most of my friends use it.

Courtney Revolution I always have that one friend that’s like, here’s my Apple music. R I’m like, girl, tap, tap, tap through the inscription. Sorry, we don’t wanna see that. We don’t wanna see that.

Louis Virtel I have to say, you’re right.

Courtney Revolution I want graphics, I want the story, I wanna see my girls at the top. Like, what is this Apple music? It’s not esthetic enough for me.

Louis Virtel Yeah, right.

Courtney Revolution You know?

Louis Virtel We’ll get into it. Also our interview today is the fabulous Diane Krueger, who is in the new show Little Disasters. She’s also in the Dangerous Liaisons prequel, The Seduction. She’s also in so many insane movies. So we’ll talk about those two and just being a fabulous actress all the time. All that and more when Keep It Returns.

[AD].

Louis Virtel It’s Spotify wrap season, so Courtney and I are going to open this eerie window into our listening habits, plus share some of our favorite and more importantly, least favorite music releases of the year. Courtney, why don’t you start with your top artist?

Courtney Revolution I don’t even need to look at my Spotify screenshots to tell you that my number one artist is Taylor Allison Swift.

You are a Swifty?

Courtney Revolution Yeah. Yeah, you can jump me. It’s fine. I don’t care. I do this everywhere. It’s fine. Wow.

Louis Virtel Well, you’re prepared for battle.

Courtney Revolution It’s the Taylor and the Nicki. Go for it. Fine.

Louis Virtel This is one battle after another live.

Courtney Revolution Yes. My number ones and number twos in general across everything in life are Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.

Louis Virtel Well thats a dicotomy right there.

Courtney Revolution I’m thee most annoying kind of type of person. I’ve been told.

Louis Virtel Well I just wanna say I wanna say by the way that that remains one of my favorite celebrity feuds of all time.

Courtney Revolution It was brief.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution But beautiful.

Louis Virtel And it also all happened on Twitter, which is just the way to make it messy in a way for all of us to understand.

Courtney Revolution Literally.

Louis Virtel Okay, well this year we got Life of a Showgirl from Taylor Swift, which I would say is an album that was received in a sort of B B minus way. Yes, I agree. Is that what you listened to the most this year?

Courtney Revolution Absolutely.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution It was 40 Minutes.

Louis Virtel And what did you have to say about that album .

Courtney Revolution I lived for it.

Louis Virtel Just one hundred percent?

Courtney Revolution A hundred percent.

Louis Virtel You seem scared.

Courtney Revolution No skips.

Louis Virtel Okay. Is she is she behind you?

Courtney Revolution No, I’m behind her.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution No, I loved Life of a Showgirl. I think that people are super critical about the kind of music that Taylor makes, especially after folklore, which is probably my least favorite Taylor Swift album.

Louis Virtel Well, this is what I’m interested in because when people are Taylor Swift fans, she’s crossed genres a number of ways.

Courtney Revolution Absolutely.

Louis Virtel So I feel like it’s likely you won’t like certain albums as much as you like other albums. So folklore is your like nadir for her.

Courtney Revolution Yeah, folklore is like the album that like people that like artists love. Like, you know, it’s like that’s her most prominent album. It’s so important. The lyrics, the metaphors. I’m like, girl, she’s been doing that since you know self-titled. Where you been?

Louis Virtel So you think the styling is a bit pretentious?

Courtney Revolution Yeah. I thought both Folklore and Evermore were two boring albums back to back, and I’m glad that we’re back to putting smiles on our faces and shaking our ass again.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Now you did that physically to this album, which I find slow.

Courtney Revolution One hundred percent.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution One hundred percent. The Fate of Ophelia? Are kidding me?

Louis Virtel Girl, it’s mid tempo. Max Martin was like he like barely got up for that one.

Courtney Revolution Oh no, I lived for it.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I shimmied my ass off. I like Opalite. Cute, Christmas adjacent.

Louis Virtel I find the music to be a bit Christmas adjacent.

Courtney Revolution Yeah. And that I’m not complaining. It’s just okay, after December am I going to play Opalite often? You know?

Louis Virtel Do you have a favorite just single of Taylor Swift’s period from years past?

Courtney Revolution Favorite? Ready for it?

Louis Virtel Now see, I feel like the stands go hardest for the reputation era ultimately.

Courtney Revolution Yeah, that’s the album that I use when I want people to be like, Oh, maybe I don’t hate her that much. Like I’ll just put it on, they’re like, Oh, what is this? Taylor Swift. Like you know how we were just talking shit about her the past hour? Yeah, you like this one, huh?

Louis Virtel W wait, you wanna see my im you can’t hear my impression that I’m about to do if unless you watch the YouTube. This is incentive to go watch the YouTube. Do you wanna see my impression of Taylor Swift dancing on that album?

Courtney Revolution Yes, please. Yeah Ha ha. She had enough.

Louis Virtel I did a snake neck with arms up. Think think of Julia Styles and Save the Last Dance going hard. That’s what I did. Sorry I you couldn’t hear that out there.

Courtney Revolution That wasn’t bad.

Louis Virtel So Taylor Swift’s your number one, Nicki Minaj is your number two. I now I feel like this was kind of the year with Nicki Minaj where even the hardcore defenders and I’m one of those ’cause I defend any celebrity who is hilarious.

Courtney Revolution Mm-hmm.

Louis Virtel We’re kind of like, okay, she needs to go away for like four years. Like she’s just she’s just getting ruder and uncouther.

Courtney Revolution Yes. I’m not one of those people.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution I’m one hundred percent not one of those people.

Louis Virtel What when you’re listening to Nicki Minaj, what are you listening to? Is there a song you play on repeat?

Courtney Revolution Right now it’s probably Barbie Dangerous. I do enjoy that song. Pink Friday Two, I think, was a very interesting album for her. And I’m still playing it. You know, Nicki didn’t even need to put out music really this year for me to still be into it. I like her. How do you feel about Nicki Minaj?

Louis Virtel Me? Oh no, I mean I I historically.

Courtney Revolution In terms of this year?

Louis Virtel In terms of this year, not as inspired. Other than last year. Wait, what was that fucking the hot city? What was the thing where we’re all going to the pink city? What was that?

Courtney Revolution Gag City.

Louis Virtel I couldn’t think of it. Yeah. That was that was a hilarious time on the internet.

Courtney Revolution I lived for Gag City. The fact that Nicki’s album dropped and all her fans decided, you know what, we’re gonna create our own Gag City via AI, and then it went viral and everyone started making their own worlds online. And then Nicki used that inspiration and turned it into a record-breaking tour.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution It’s so inspiring. Depending on how you look at it.

Louis Virtel I think it’s easy to object to AI because it already peaked with Gag City.

Courtney Revolution That’s like I can’t get any better than that. Couldn’t have said that. It better myself, honestly.

Louis Virtel You know, we’re done with that. Now Taylor Swift was the biggest artist in the US this year. Worldwide, it’s Bad Bunny. And I have to say, something that’s gonna propel me through award season is hoping Bad Bunny wins the album of the year Grammy. Because I think it’s time, right? He’s like way too huge.

Courtney Revolution Wait, Move. Man. My friends that love Bad Bunny are like the way I feel about Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, I have so many friends that feel that way about Bad Bunny. Like the Super Bowl is going to be the highlight of the year for them. And so Yeah.

Louis Virtel Oh. He’s also like the case of somebody who is so gigantic. Like anybody in the music listening world cares about this man, but still at the Super Bowl, he will be introduced to still somehow a new demographic. So I’m interested in that melding of worlds.

Courtney Revolution You know what I want? I want Bad Bunny to be so inescapable after the Super Bowl that I’m irritated. Yeah. You remember when Lizzo had put out Truth Hurts and we could not Minnesota Vikings? Yeah, not the Vikings. I want that effect. I want the Lizzo Truth Hurts effect. Whatever package that is, let’s pay for it and give it to Bad Bunny. I want to hear his music. I don’t want to understand a single word. I want to hear every single song everywhere.

Louis Virtel I think you will. He deserves it. Yes, exactly. I I think the album The Year Grammy is his. I don’t think it’s gonna happen for Mayhem, right?

Courtney Revolution Perfect Celebrity is my number one song. It’s my most played song of the year. Perfect Celebrity. I was kind of surprised. I thought it would be Sapphire by Ed Sharon, but it’s a good idea.

Louis Virtel Are you a killer person? No. Mitch, what happened? Flop. She sounds like George Michael, motherfucker. Father figure by Taylor Swift. That certainly is the song title. Are you a fan of Shadow of a Man? No. Girl, what happened? Yeah. What happened? Me listening. Me listening.

Courtney Revolution Stephanie, what happened?

Louis Virtel I continue to be worried for you.

Courtney Revolution I

Louis Virtel Can we get the Chicago DVD?

Courtney Revolution When it comes to like Lady Gaga, my my favorite song from her is Judas.

Louis Virtel I love Judas.

Courtney Revolution So like.

Louis Virtel I I love frenetic Lady Gaga. Yes.

Courtney Revolution When I hear certain things, I’m like. Mayhem felt like a lot of the really good parts of Lady Gaga. But that doesn’t mean that every song is a hit for me.

Louis Virtel Okay, got it.

Courtney Revolution You know?

Louis Virtel It’s so interesting that perfect celebrity is number one though. Fascinating.

Courtney Revolution She ate that.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution The hook alone.

Louis Virtel It is a hooky album. Mm-hmm. Now speaking of her, Die with a Smile is not only Lady Gaga’s most popular song this year, it is also the most popular song in the world on Spotify. I have a theory as a Madonna stan that there’s no such thing as a Madonna fan whose favorite song is Like A Virgin. Same thing. There is no such thing as a Lady Gaga fan whose favorite song is Die with a Smile.

Courtney Revolution I agree. I feel like die with a smile is for like the nursing homes.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I don’t like that shit at all.

Louis Virtel They actually say that to the people who are dying.

Courtney Revolution No. It’s a song.

Louis Virtel It’s certainly related to Joker 2, which I thought we had buried in the desert with other Area 51 things. I support Stephanie, but she could not get my coin for that. Doesn’t it disappoint you? What are people listening to out there that this is at the center of their universe? Like, why not any other Lady Gaga? Like I love like do what you want, Lady Gaga. I love it.

Courtney Revolution It’s played on the radio, probably. Yeah. Like in my hometown, I imagine that that is played right after the third Nickelback song of the hour. Precisely. They are putting that on. We got the new Lady Gaga. It’s like eight months later. We got the new Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.

Louis Virtel I guess there’s no sort of s like retail environment in which it’s inappropriate. Like you could listen to it at Best Buy or Barnes and Noble or you know, where at like the grocery store. Like it belongs every year.

Courtney Revolution You’re at Pavilions and all of a sudden you’re gonna die with this one. I’m like, I gotta get out of here.

Louis Virtel No, right. That’s your message.

Courtney Revolution I wanna hear Tinashe. Sheryl Crow. You know?

Louis Virtel Either. They should collab.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel Yeah, my number one out of this of the year is I’m a Madonna Stan. Still listen to She had a great remix album a couple of years ago, so I listened mostly to that. It’s called Finally Enough Love. I also love the I’ve been obsessed with Dusty Springfield recently, if you know Son of a Preacher Man. Who is that? Honey. You have to listen to Blue Eyes Soul. Oh my God.

Courtney Revolution Who the hell Dusty? Wait, what’s the last name? Springfield.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Okay. You know, you know son of a preacher man. I promise you. The only one who could ever teach me. Is this a white person? Yes, she is. I have to. Oh, it’s a woman this is a woman. Yes. You have none of the clues. Yeah.

Courtney Revolution It’s Nicki Taylor, Ed, and Post Malone for me.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Really Always? What’s your favorite Ed song? Always, but when I find a Ed Sheeran song I like, oh, I run it into the ground.

Louis Virtel What’s the one he did Castle on the Hill? That’s a great song.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel Oh my god.

Courtney Revolution Can we get a doctor in here? Ozzy Zam, Sapphire. Don’t. Oh my God. I listened to Don’t and actually listened to the lyrics for the first time this year. I’ve heard it a million times, but I was like, oh, Ed is reading on this. Is he dragging somebody? He dragged Ellie Golden on that song. I said, hold on now. This is a hit. I’m kind of a fan of hers, actually.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Where’s Allie Gold?

Louis Virtel Is she at a festival somewhere?

Courtney Revolution Yeah, right. I don’t think she makes herself that known. The last time I heard an Ellie Golding song, Juice World was alive. That’s how long it’s been. That’s how you mark time. Okay. Yeah, I was like, Ellie Golding and Juice World. Okay. That’s the last time I remember being like Ellie Golding.

Louis Virtel That’s so interesting that you’re an Ed Sheeran stand though. Where what brought you into the into the frame of him? Okay.

Courtney Revolution Find him to be backwards. Played on the radio a lot and heavily. But I like his songwriting. Are you a Beyonce person? I like Beyonce. But you love Ed Sheeran. I would probably say I like Beyonce more than Ed Sheeran. Okay. But Beyonce’s not making it onto like my top artist list. Okay. But Renaissance made my top albums.

Louis Virtel Okay. I listen to Renaissance mostly, yes. Plastic off the sofa, come on. Virgo’s like that’s off.

Courtney Revolution When will you just come Classic off the sofa skip? When will you come? Skip like hard skip. Like don’t even let it be. Do you like Virgo remove it from the queue? Virgo or Yeah, cute. Cute. Alien superstar for me.

Louis Virtel Okay. Don’t like it as much.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel I don’t like her mixing with aliens. I don’t believe it. What? She’s she she’s not kooky. You’re not into the intergalactic flawlessness. No. I think she’s firmly within our galaxy. Lady Gaga, meanwhile, like put her on that Katy Perry flight.

Courtney Revolution Did you listen to one four three? I did.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Was that this year? It was. I like the song Truth on that album, but I have to say it was just shockingly generic for Katy Perry. Katherine, I didn’t hate one.

Courtney Revolution Four three. That’s how I feel. I didn’t hate it. I didn’t hate it. But it was awful. By Katy Perry standards. We’re never gonna get another teenage dream, which I can accept. But like almost every album has gotten progressively worse.

Louis Virtel Yeah, right. That happens to some artists. You know, they peak early and then they have nowhere to go.

Courtney Revolution I don’t like that.

Louis Virtel Yeah. And not for Catherine. You know what’s so funny about her is I think in any other universe, her dating Justin Trudeau would be like a huge story and we just all were like, actually we don’t care.

Courtney Revolution I don’t think I’ve ever scrolled harder. Yeah. I wanted to care about that so bad because Catherine, you’ve given me some great songs. I don’t.

Louis Virtel No, he has yacht hair, which I appreciate, and he seems to always need to be wearing jeans, even when they’re getting naked. It’s a Canadian syndrome that can’t be explained.

Courtney Revolution Ick.

Louis Virtel But yeah, the two of them together, it’s almost like maybe I don’t believe their chemistry. Like how do they end up together? You know? It’s sort of like Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal. Like, was this like a publicist meeting or something?

Courtney Revolution Jake Gyllenhaal. You’re on my list.

Louis Virtel You’re still pissed about that? I’m furious. Well, he’s one of those self serious actors where I’m like, who knows what he’s like when you get down with that? You know, it’s like Marlon Brando. I’m like, I don’t need to know all the secrets. Okay, I’m very charmed to see Rosalia’s album on so many Spotify wrapped end of year recaps for people because this woman made music that does not belong in any algorithm. And also, she seemed to prioritize that. She’s like, it’s my job as a creative person to make music that speaks to me, that isn’t just some pre existing product that people already have. This woman is so exciting, and not just because she works with Bjork, I’m wearing a Bjork shirt right now, I cannot figure this woman out. She’s so creative and rad. I hope we get even more from her.

Courtney Revolution I’m screaming at Bjork. Number one.

Louis Virtel Of course. Don’t worry.

Courtney Revolution I didn’t know that she worked with Bjork.

Louis Virtel On this new album. What’s crazy is you if you heard this song they do together, it’s not commercial at all. And then you listen to the entire album and then suddenly it feels like a Max Martin single in comparison. Wait.

Courtney Revolution That’s good though. Yes, no, it’s not a big thing.

Louis Virtel Yes. If you listen to any interview with Rosalia, it’s you know what it reminds me of interviews with Shakira. You’re like, whoa, there are layers of intellect and musical genius going into this that I think a lot of people are underestimating. She really is fabulous. Okay, Rosalie. It says here that the top album of the year was I’m the problem by Morgan Wallen. Was that your fave, sweetie? Absolutely not.

Courtney Revolution I was I almost vomited upon hearing that news and I had to hold it back. I’m not a fan of Morgan Wallen.

Louis Virtel It was still this year that he did that SNL performance and then ran off the stage afterwards to get back to God’s country.

Courtney Revolution Like what is good about Morgan Wallen? I never hear anything good. May I have a testimony? Yes. I don’t go to many music festivals, but I did enjoy Hangout Fest over in the Florida, the Pensacola shout outs, Pensacola. Why did Morgan Wallen take over the contract to my music festival and then like change the entire concept? And then I didn’t go last year. Oh, that’s such a I’m never gonna go to a music festival that’s like his name is on it. No. Morgan Wallen, give Hangout Fest back, please. And I’m never listening to your music. Keep it.

Louis Virtel I think I said this before. He seems like a villain in the movie Boys Don’t Cry, like somebody who, like, you know, isn’t a fan of the queers.

Courtney Revolution He’s like the guy that the guys in my hometown would root for.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Right. Exactly. It’s that it’s that creepy like there’s an angst that he get anyway. And also I’m s I come from these people, people who listen to music on pontoon boats, they seem placid, they’re all pissed. You give them an old style beer and then you know, they’re often shooting fireworks in your direction.

Courtney Revolution No. I can’t have sounds very Pennsylvania.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Northern Wisconsin too. Remember that show Making a Murderer? It’s like that.

Courtney Revolution No, I’ve never seen that.

Louis Virtel Netflix. It was a tough year.

Courtney Revolution Bless them. Bless them Netflix.

Louis Virtel My top three new albums this year were Lily Allen West End Girl, because I love when people are broken up with. And not only did she go through this breakup of David Harbor, then afterwards, her references and lyrics were so specific, it made everyone want to do their own journalism on the matter. And we would be like, maybe we can find out even more if we watch their architectural digest video. And you kind of can. It’s like a lot, it’s like fun detective work. I love that album. I love Mayhem by Lady Gaga. And you know who else actually broke through for me this year? Who? Addison Ray. You know what’s interesting about the music is in a way, she’s kind of delivering this Siri or Alexa type voice that feels like it’s devoid of personality. But then I cannot with that. But it’s not. She, it’s like a sexy, it’s like subversive in a way. I can’t explain it. She’s doing something that, as our friend Harry Neff once said, comes from the pussy.

Courtney Revolution Addison Ray has gone to the school of Selena Gomez whispering.

Louis Virtel Yes. And I and gurgling. Yes.

Courtney Revolution Just say girl.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Like a baby. I I like her a lot. I think that she understands that she’s a celebrity and she can just kinda like pop out wearing whatever and attract attention and I think the music is good. And she has a very interesting fan base. They go hard for her.

Louis Virtel Yeah. But also I feel like the fan base is now turning into like forty year old gay guys. You know what I’m saying? One hundred percent. I love her song New York though. The pure like trashiness of like, get the Bowery Hotel. Wait, can you do that? I can’t. She sounds like, you know, like a Fisher Price little person, like speaking into the mic.

Courtney Revolution She’s being trained by like Charlie XEX, right? She’s working with Charlie. I love their collaboration.

Louis Virtel We can hear it. So what were your top three new albums of the year?

Courtney Revolution Top three, I would say Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift. I also really liked V by Doja Cat, which I love that album. The girlies tried to slap my sister upside her bald head and that pissed me off. Because I thought it was a great album. I thought it was very romantic.

Louis Virtel The first track, the one that’s really eighties tinged, love that song. Yes.

Courtney Revolution What’s wrong with a like a concept album?

Louis Virtel No.

Courtney Revolution Grande for her concept album, which love that. But I don’t see why Doja Cat can’t get the same love.

Louis Virtel I thought that album exceeded all expectations. I loved it. Very strange to me. And I guess Mayhem, right? Yeah. No, and and Mayhem was inescapable. It was it was a great rowdy vibe.

Courtney Revolution Here’s a question. Will Lady Gaga ever return to the height of fame when she dropped like born this way? I think as a thirsty millennial, I’m looking for that.

Louis Virtel And I should stop. Well, it’s like I feel like she’ll hit highs in other ways, like with I don’t know, film projects or something. But you’re right. It’s like it’s hard to recapture the moment of being the new exciting artist when you’ve been around so long. Like it, you know, you just can’t avoid feeling like the establishment after a while because you’re established.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel You know, but I don’t know if that’s possible. But at the same time, the talent isn’t diminishing at all. So I think she’ll still remain exciting. That’s also the the thing with Beyonce is like I feel like you have to see her in concert right now because like the talent is still bigger than ever. And I don’t mean to say she’s gonna lose it soon. She’s like a a gladiator. You know, it’s like they can’t be gladiators for the rest of their lives.

Courtney Revolution That’s a really good Comparison.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution I always say to people, like you you’ve even heard me say, like I like Beyonce, but even now, like I’ve seen Taylor and Nicki a million times, the Renaissance show was the number one concert I’ve ever been to in my entire life. You know, like Beyonce was it was just otherworldly.

Louis Virtel I think also what made that concert great was everybody came dressed for it. You know, it’s like you know, it’s like she said, You better be prepared for what I’m going to do. You’re going to bring something too as opposed to when you go to a concert and everyone’s just wearing looking like they just got off work or whatever, you know.

Courtney Revolution Not at Gag City, let me tell you. The whole audience was pink that night, me included. It was a moment, but you’re absolutely right. Like you would certainly feel out of place going to any Beyonce show if you didn’t come dressed how you need to be dressed.

Louis Virtel Carter show, you don’t have to try as hard. Whereas, like the Renaissance, it’s like, no, you have to have a concept. Like, there has to be a drawing first.

Courtney Revolution I needed a store employee to break me and another gay up over silver pants in the Zara. And that’s not an exaggeration. Like I walked in, we both grabbed and I was like, excuse me. And I looked great and someone else didn’t.

Louis Virtel Zara should be a competitive sport. I’m glad you’re like innovating that gold medal.

Courtney Revolution Ha ha.

Louis Virtel Okay, what were your number one albums of the year? Please hit us with them. And what were your like albums from past years you’re not putting down? I think those are just as important. We’ll be right back with the fabulous Diane Krueger.

[AD]

Louis Virtel Our guest today is a truly stunning and showstopping actress who has been captivating audiences for years in films like The Shrouds, Troy and Inglorious Bastards. You can catch her in the news series. Little Disasters premiering Thursday on Paramount Plus. Please welcome to keep it the fabulous Diane Kruger.

Diane Kruger Hi, thank you for having me.

Louis Virtel This television show is extremely hair raising to watch. This is a woman caught in a very stressful situation. And not only are you at the center of the series, but you have to be basically unreadable to us in the audience. And I was wondering what it’s like playing a character who is front and center and yet we basically don’t understand for a lot of the series.

Diane Kruger I guess the first episode was the most frustrating to do because I I remember watching it and thinking, I can definitely tell I’m off, but I hope they don’t just think it’s bad acting that you know there’s something else going on. It was kind of great to be able to dive into once you visualize what’s going on in my head and sort of just to lean into the darkness that is in there. That felt like a a relief in a way to actually get to, you know, express that.

Louis Virtel What is your favorite thing about playing this character who she has a child and then we find out the child has been terribly injured, and then child protective services step in, and we have we end up piecing together through the series what actually happened to this child and whether or not this woman is responsible for it. What’s your favorite part of just playing this woman?

Diane Kruger You know, I really enjoyed the opportunity to dive into what postpartum depression or you know, mental health issues for women after childbirth can look like. I think it’s not something that in my memory anyways I’ve I’ve seen explored to this extent in television. And you know, I’m a young mom myself and it just it felt very real and very truthful. And I love the opportunity to have this all female ensemble, a female director, you know, really trying to get into the female psyche and everything that that implies, not just that, but what having a family or a child means to your partnership, you know, friendships that are born out of just the fact that you all had a child at the same time. It’s it’s seems very real to me because I’m also, you know, still going through all of those stages. So that was fun.

Louis Virtel Right at this particular moment, we’re getting a whole bunch of series about motherhood and the hellish stress that can that that can occur. We had the new Rose Byrne movie, If I had legs, I’d kick you. We had All Her Fault with Sarah Snook. Have you seen any of this media and have you had a a personal response to any of it?

Diane Kruger I have not seen Rose’s film. I hear it’s amazing. It just it seems like it’s a really great time for women, all all around. You know, I think that those issues or those very female centric crises are finally being explored to an extent that we haven’t seen before. So I welcome all those shows and movies. I can’t wait to watch ’em.

Louis Virtel How hard is it to s sustain the intensity of this show? Now I there are several movies you’ve been in where I’m like, I I can’t imagine having to be in this circumstance the entire time seems so stressful. Like when I watch In the Fade, I’m like, how how can she do this? Like it just feels like I’m watching her life force drain from her as she goes through the the plot of this movie. How stressful is it to play stress?

Diane Kruger It’s very stressful. It really is. I don’t know, you know, the show almost broke mean because we were shooting not episodically and kind of out of order and the extremism of having to do one day, you know, this my child’s dead. I’m being being told she she passed. And then the next scene is a picnic, everything’s lovey lovey from episode six. You know, the the extremes that could happen in a day over such a long period of time and this innate tension that Jess holds just physically at all times was truly, truly exhausting. I look at some of those pictures, and I just want to scream. Like notably this is one shot. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but I’m like running, like I’m looking for my kid. And you can see like all the veins and all the muscle strings, like that it looks like I haven’t slept in a hundred years, and it’s so tense. And that’s kind of how to how I felt throughout the shoot. Yeah.

Louis Virtel I read an interview with you once where you’re talking about how you like directors who kind of they immerse you in their world. You were always a big fan of David Cronenberg, you were in.

Diane Kruger Mm-hmm.

Louis Virtel The shrouds with him. Can you talk about the experience of having a director who basically creates a world in which you you join and you sort of pick up on their whole vibe and how that makes you productive as an actor?

Diane Kruger Yeah, to me that’s like the best thing about being an actor is to find an another artist. Like or I really love working with directors who write their own material as well, because it seems like they’re really taking you into their world, into their imagination. They have created this character, they know more about this character than I ever will. And it’s just collaboration. I love collaborating. And I think those are the ones that I’m always I feel like they’re very special, whether or not they’re big hits or not, but just as an ex work experience, it feels very complete.

Louis Virtel Do directors like that tend to be more specific in what they ask you to do, or do you have more freedom with them because they cast you to sort of create the character as opposed to just carry out what they’ve thought of the character?

Diane Kruger Yeah, it depends. I think more and more, like one of the things that how I approach a character is always asking the director to please give me a backstory of this character. So if it’s a writer director, that’s really great because he in his mind has that story anyways. And then you shoot off ideas. But it is very helpful, I think, to feel like your director knows exactly what should happen and where this person is coming from. You know, it’s it’s sort of a shortcut to getting a good performance, I think.

Louis Virtel I was mesmerized by you in the Criterion Closet recently for a couple of reasons. You spent most of your life in France now, but you’re from Germany. And you picked something from the Criterion Closet that I would pick, which is the Marlena Dietrich von Sternberg collection. Now, being from Germany, I assume people you you get asked all the time, like what your connection to that actress is, she being the most famous actress from Germany. But at the same time, she is still one of a kind. Like if you want a Marlena Dietrich type performance, you can only watch her. So can you talk about growing up, as you said you did, in the Criterion Closet video with that actress and what you thought of her and why she remains with you?

Diane Kruger I sort of have a connection with her through my grandparents. You know, obviously she’s not I’m not of her generation. But I grew up a lot with my grandparents. And my grandmother loved her films and they were in black and white, you know, and we had the that old television that grandparents have that is bigger than a house in itself. And after school, you know, waiting for my mom to come home from work while my grandfather would be like in the garden or in the field or whatever, she would sneak these m movies because she wasn’t allowed to watch them when he was around because he would he would get so mad for her showing me these movies because he called her a a traitor. And I I of course, as a kid, oh I shouldn’t watch this. I really wanna watch this. So I watched all of her movies and then I tried to understand why he would feel that way. And so I read up about her life and her story and what she did, and I’ve listened to s to her speak, you know, I even talked to her daughter in for an hour who just passed, Maria Breva. And it’s just a fascinating, it’s a very specific time in Germany, you know, this when she was born and the way she was raised. And I the older I get, the more I find myself looking back and looking back on, you know, remarkable women’s lives. And so she’s such an inspiration to me.

Louis Virtel I’m still getting over that In the Fade was your first German language performance. I mean, your life is makes no sense. It’s so strange. Like how in what order this has all taken place? Do you crave doing movies in the German language? Or is it something you’re not particularly seeking out?

Diane Kruger I mean I’d love to. I just I did one this summer, called Each of Us. It’s nice. I lo I mean, I love speaking German. And I would like to work more in Germany or make German content anyways, you know, and it’s funny ’cause what I get offered from Germany is not always kind of what I wanna do. So it’s just finding the right projects, I guess.

Louis Virtel What has been the hardest English language project for you to do in terms of picking up on things like, I don’t know, stateside idioms or references or things we have here that maybe aren’t as ubiquitous in Europe?

Diane Kruger I mean, that’s a complex question because I mean, I’ve been living in the US for such a long time and my partner is American, yet I innately don’t feel American, right? I I definitely don’t feel like I’m from here and some of the cultural collectiveness I just don’t get. I can probably play it, but I’m sure there’s characters that I wouldn’t be able to accurately portray because of that. And it’s the same in French, you know, I I still find myself especially when when I’m asked to play like someone from Provence or like, you know, like from the countryside, accent wise, but also just yeah, culturally, I I don’t quite fit in.

Louis Virtel I heard you recently say you really want to do a proper romantic drama at some point. I think in fact you brought up Kramer versus Kramer and the great movie A Man and a Woman with Anuka May. What is it about that particular kind of movie that you’re really excited to be a part of? I guess it would be I would be surprised to see you in it in a way.

Diane Kruger I just I grew up watching those films. I don’t love rom-coms. I mean, they can be amusing at times, but I’ve always find that sort of simplistic take on love quite boring and not really desirable. And even when I was a young girl or younger, I just always craved a more in-depth understanding of what an adult love affair is or can be. And I know Kramer versus Kramer is really about divorce, but it’s still about love, right? And I mean I’m a child of divorce and like the torturous side to love is definitely something that I’m interested in. I don’t know, I just feel like we don’t make movies like that anymore, and it’s maybe time to get back to it.

Louis Virtel I feel like in Kramer versus Kramer too, like every character in that movie gets a moment to really reveal themselves. Like I mean, Meryl Streep in particular on the stand, like we suddenly hear a side to this woman we otherwise would not have. So I think also those movies tend to be give us very deep characters just in explaining where they’re coming from, you know.

Diane Kruger Absolutely.

Louis Virtel And my last question is, I mean, we have to talk for a split second about Inglorious Bastards. Your scene with the main scene with Christoph Waltz has got to be one of the most tense. Again, you’re a master of tense scenes, as we’ve already discussed here today. Do you have a favorite moment on set of just working with him? And also, I mean, even just watching that movie still, it’s like I mean, he’s bone chilling. It’s got one one of the great bone chilling performances in cinema. Was it scary to sit there and watch him act?

Diane Kruger With with Christoph.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Diane Kruger You to be honest, Christoph floored all of us. We I had no idea who he was before. I mean I heard his name in Germany. Like my mom vaguely knew who he was. And I don’t know where Crenton found him. I mean he and he kept it like such a secret. I remember being at the table read and he read it really flat, like there was no indication of what he was gonna do. And I remember being in that s very first scene with him and like just be shook, to be honest. Like I I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and I think everybody felt the same way. Obviously Quentin knew and he told me once, he deliberately told him to just play it flat, yeah, in the in the reads and like just stay away from us. But yeah, that was one of those great finds that you know, you don’t get all the time, I guess.

Louis Virtel Well, thank you for being here. My God, I always a fan. Also the show The Seduction, also fabulous. Anybody who’s a fan of Dangerous Liaison should check this show out. But Little Disasters is so compelling. I was like mainlining these episodes. It’s compulsively bingeable. So thank you for being here, Diane Krueger.

Diane Kruger Thank you for having me.

Louis Virtel Thank you to Diane Kruger, stream Little Disasters on Paramount Plus starting December eleventh. We’ll be right back with more Keep it.

[AD]

Louis Virtel Last week the girls went off, and by girls, we mean Quentin Tarantino. And since Quentin got his feud in just before the clock strikes January, we’re going to get into that mess, plus all the other celebrity gossip that kept us going all 2025. Starting with you, Courtney.

Courtney Revolution Hey.

Louis Virtel What was your I’m not gonna say favorite, what celebrity gossip consumed you?

Courtney Revolution Right now what’s consuming me is this Diddy documentary that came out on the Netflix.

Louis Virtel Yeah. I have not seen it yet. I do intend to see it. So you jumped right on it though.

Courtney Revolution This is my Chicago.

Louis Virtel Okay.

Courtney Revolution You need to go and you need to wa like by the end of the week, you need to watch all the parts of it.

Louis Virtel I’m gonna suggest that Chicago is a pleasantly entertaining enterprise and then this is.

Courtney Revolution And so was this.

Louis Virtel So harrowing

Courtney Revolution It was very sad.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution But as someone that loves a good investigation, I had certain questions of mine that were answered.

Louis Virtel Oh, okay. Such as?

Courtney Revolution Such as, who killed Tubak and Biggie?

Louis Virtel Oh, it starts there?

Courtney Revolution It doesn’t start there, but I definitely feel like by the end of it, you’re gonna feel like, oh, I have a couple fingers and I would like to point them.

Louis Virtel Oh my God. Well.

Courtney Revolution I was like, get him. That that’s very much how I felt by the end of it is like, wow, that monster. Wow, I loved Danity Kane. How do I listen to them now?

Louis Virtel Wow. I’m glad Aubrey O’day is back. Yes. Thanks to that.

Courtney Revolution You need to watch that Aubrey O’day part. Yesterday.

Louis Virtel What was the biggest reveal from the Diddy Doc? I assume it’s chock full of them.

Courtney Revolution Oh my god, there were a lot of reveals. I think the biggest reveal was probably the fact that, according to the documentary, speculation, not confirmation, Diddy led Biggie to his death. Like Biggie was supposed to do interviews in London or the UK, and the person called Diddy and Biggie at their hotel room to make sure that Biggie was going to be on his flight. And Diddy was like, he’s not going to London and hung up on him. And then Diddy decided to throw a party in LA, and Biggie was shot that night. So if Diddy would have let Biggie do his job overseas, he would probably still be here.

Louis Virtel Okay, well, that’s nefarious enough. Alright.

Courtney Revolution Yeah. That’s that’s literally the tip of the iceberg.

Louis Virtel Okay. I feel like the cultural conversation around Diddy has boiled down to baby oil jokes.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel And the idea of a freak off. But it’s like sort of like the charges involved are so serious. I’m wondering if we’re selling the situation short by being so glib about how terrible this is.

Courtney Revolution For me It’s like, you know, Diddy was like charged for like a RICO and prostitution, right? But I mean, what about the alleged assaults?

Louis Virtel Right.

Courtney Revolution What about the alleged shootings that were covered up? What about I mean, Aubrey O’Day? Like there are so many things that are like. Are you coming out of jail for real, Diddy? Cause if this Tupac trial come out, allegedly, it’s not looking good.

Louis Virtel Oh my God. Okay. A lot to learn. Okay, we have to get also into this Quentin Tarantino business. Quentin Tarantino did an interview with Brett Easton Ellis. Already there should be a shiver running down your spine. But he was just, you know, mouth and off as he loves to do. Quentin Tarantino is like the most famous and successful person ever who has podcaster energy. You know, just like going off. Like talking about his nerdy favorite things and being uncouth. But in this case, he out of nowhere was talking about how he loves the movie There Will Be Blood, except for the fact that as a two-hander movie, that is to say it stars two actors. Daniel Day Lewis is amazing. And then he said Paul Dano, who is the other lead in that movie, is weak sauce and in fact the worst actor in SAG. Now, let me say something. The internet immediately jumped to Paul Dano’s defense. And he’s been great in a number of things over the years, as far as I’m concerned. I love him in Little Miss Sunshine. I love him in There Will Be Blood. I did hate the movie Oakcha, which he starred in. And it I sort of appreciate that Quentin said something so nasty so I could just evaluate his career and wonder if I agreed. But two things happened here that I have to say I actually like. It was nice to see everybody on the internet jump to Paul Dano’s defense. And also, I wish celebrities were this nasty all the time. They used to be. Yeah. No, like they would give like, you know, interviews to magazines or something, and they were maybe nasty in a blurb, and then it went away.

Courtney Revolution Or on Twitter.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Rihanna and Ciera used to go at it.

Louis Virtel Oh my god, no Rihanna said, let me make quick work of you, Ciera.

Courtney Revolution I miss that. Bring mess back to celebrity culture. Why was Quentin so mean?

Louis Virtel I it it does feel a bit like personal.

Courtney Revolution They got beef or what?

Louis Virtel Like I guess my feeling is it would have been one thing if he was just like he’s bad in this movie, but then to call him the worst actor in SAG feels so extreme.

Courtney Revolution For me as a person that is always looking for his next check, hi, I’m a content creator. I looked at that situation as not you messing with my money.

Louis Virtel Yes. It felt like stop working.

Courtney Revolution I didn’t like that.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution Quentin, you lucky you may kill Bill. Because that’s the only one I like.

Louis Virtel Well let me tell you Well also I also kind of appreciate that Quentin Tarantino will just say things that I truly hate and he doesn’t mind that I’m gonna hate him. Like he went for a time went after two different Judy Dench movies I’m obsessed with. He said that nobody is talking about notes on a scandal or Philomena. Queen, look me in the eye. You think I’m not talking about notes on a scandal or Philomena? Name one other thing I’m talking about.

Courtney Revolution Let me ask you this, was Quentin being mean? But

Louis Virtel Right? Objectively? Well, I guess my feeling is that phrasing that nobody is discussing these movies doesn’t mean the movies aren’t good. And also it’s like, Quentin, you and your male friends are only gonna be talking about movies with like shoot ’em up shit. Stop pretending like Judy Dentch is on your lips anyway.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel You know. But anyway, it was a rare moment of celebrity nastiness this year.

Courtney Revolution I thought that was nasty so nasty and so rude.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution The real housewives reference.

Louis Virtel I’ll let everybody else look that up. Also this year we of course got the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad situation.

Courtney Revolution Bless her.

Louis Virtel I guess.

Courtney Revolution Bless her. I j I literally just interviewed her last week.

Louis Virtel How did it go?

Courtney Revolution Well, we go and look at that footage. Um…I why did she stay silent for so long?

Louis Virtel And why is she so offended when people like, Well, people assign motives to me that weren’t my motives? I’m like, Well, we wouldn’t have had you done interviews about it.

Courtney Revolution Speak up. And speak out. You Sydney Sweeney.

Louis Virtel Oh, don’t worry. Luckily, Sydney Sweeney did speak out very recently. She said, I was honestly surprised by the reaction. I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign.

Courtney Revolution Woo.

Louis Virtel What a brilliant response and so specific. I’m inspired. What are the views? What don’t like say it by name.

Courtney Revolution That was a very PR response. Sydney, it’s getting hot. We need you to say something. Call people magazine then.

Louis Virtel There’s also seems to be a growing resentment about her as like this ubiquitous actress, like somebody who gets to be in eleven movies a year. Yeah. She and she’s having this like prestige moment with this boxing movie Christy that people seem to be not excited about the movie or not excited about her, like jumping into the Oscar fray. So I just feel like as a moment right now, we’re all a little I hate using the phrase over it, but like finding the whole thing sus with her.

Courtney Revolution There’s just a better way she could have gone about it.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution You know, and it bless you, Sydney. It’s not looking good. It’s not looking good.

Louis Virtel I love when you look to camera and tell celebrities, look out, Queen.

Courtney Revolution I’m just like, you know, I’m sure you’re a beautiful person, but it just wasn’t it didn’t look good.

Louis Virtel She was good on white lotus. She was good on white lotus.

Courtney Revolution Oh yeah, absolutely.

Louis Virtel You know.

Courtney Revolution Not good in that ad though.

Louis Virtel Also, the actual ad itself, the Sydney Sweeney has great jeans. I understand that the internet immediately jumped on that and it felt like an out of control, chaotic situation, maybe before we even got proper dialog about what actually occurred. That said, they should have fucking known better than Sydney Sweeney has great jeans. I understand at the heart of advertising is puns. Of course. Like I get it. But at the same time, the implications of the pun, I think were evident. So I mean, it does feel crazy to me that it ended up going public as an actual ad campaign.

Courtney Revolution I’m like, if I were Sydney, I just think that I would have immediately come out and been like, I see what y’all are saying. Yes. That ain’t me though. Right. That ain’t me. That ain’t me though. Like something. Instead, we got silence, and she’s replaced by Martha Stewart and her heavy eggnog, I keep seeing all over my Twitter timeline. Like always a denim short. Yeah. You know. So I mean, I bad move on American Eagles’ part and Sydney Sweeney’s part because I feel like she should have spoken up way sooner.

Louis Virtel It’s also one of those things where maybe if they just had like six different people in the ad campaign and and it wasn’t just one blonde blue eyed woman, maybe things would have been a little bit different. But it’s like again, what you’re saying, it’s evident what the messaging was. So just respond to that accidental messaging and say, that’s not me.

Courtney Revolution And by having one person, it felt intentional.

Louis Virtel Yeah. American Eagle.

Courtney Revolution Yeah.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution And we saw sixteen, but y’all tried it on that one.

Louis Virtel No, and by the way, I’m from the Midwest. Nothing I want more than to walk through a mall and try on like jeans that are hip high with a spangled belt, like from Charlotte Roos.

Courtney Revolution Not Charlotte, really.

Louis Virtel I am the wet seal.

Courtney Revolution R.I.P., R.I.P. Charlotte Russe and Wetseal. Bless them. And Forever 21.

Louis Virtel Oh yeah. Get my ears pierced and get ’em infected right there in the store.

Courtney Revolution Not this. What in the Claire’s is going on here? Bless them.

Louis Virtel Claire, if you’re out there, come on, keep it. Elsewhere, okay, this talk show Jimmy Kim Alive, which weirdly I write for and will be going to work after this podcast, was kicked off the air via the FCC, via through Disney, via Donald Trump. And.

Courtney Revolution What was that like?

Louis Virtel I have to say, the thing that I that still lingers with me about this whole situation is that everybody reacted so quickly with the cancelations. Sometimes you feel like nobody is paying attention to anything going on. You know, like even as like a pop cultural person, do I lose myself in this pop culture bubble to, you know, prevent myself from realizing what crazy and insane realities are out there? In this case, people listened to something happening in pop culture and did the correct progressive thing immediately. And so it sort of changed what I thought of what’s going through people’s heads in America right now. Like I was pleasantly surprised, is all I’ll say.

Courtney Revolution Here’s the thing. I just don’t think that the president should be controlling what we watch and what we consume.

Louis Virtel That’s such a controversial statement. ‘Cause I feel so comforted when he chooses for me.

Courtney Revolution That’s just like I like for what? Not a fan of it. It made me uncomfortable because it made me feel like if one day I were in a position to have a platform like that, I wouldn’t be able to speak my mind. And one thing about me, I’ma get to the mess. So I just the whole situation made me feel like, mhmmm… That literal sound, you know how Marge Simpson be like mhhhm.

Louis Virtel Yeah. That’s how I felt about it. Well, it’s also it’s so weird because it’s just a show about jokes. It’s joking about anything. What do you respect? You know? And but when you elect somebody whose entire I I guess strength or what people like about him is his rabid defensiveness, then the jokes are like he he considers, you know, a capital offense. And so he’s gonna come after just jokes, even though it’s like we’re all saying jokes all the time, you know. Imagine getting through the day without jokes.

Courtney Revolution I have something to say, and this may be controversial.

Louis Virtel I bet it will be.

Courtney Revolution It’s very interesting that Donald Trump can’t take a joke, but didn’t he just try to revive Rush Hour? Right. You gotta understand the concept of a joke if you want old ass Jackie Chan flipping around again, don’t you? You would think he was a fan of comedy. Well, also that’s just like I immediately I was like, but you just tried to you just tried to give Jackie Chan. You understand comedy?

Louis Virtel Also, by the way, once upon a time in the like two thousands, Donald Trump would be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Courtney Revolution He was on the WWE.

Louis Virtel Oh, everything. But he would sit in the chair and say to Jimmy, I’m a huge fan of you. And it’s it’s like he’s a huge fan of everybody who’s on his side with him. So the idea that he’s sitting here pretending like he hates the comedy of Jimmy Kimmel or like whatever his stand is is just so transparently stupid. The transparent stupidity at the heart of this is I think what’s most maddening. How do you feel about this Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni ongoing situation?

Courtney Revolution I don’t and I want Taylor Swift. Leave Taylor Swift out of it. That’s my opinion.

Louis Virtel Well, I mean just say it’s a little bit.

Courtney Revolution Leave my sister out.

Louis Virtel That was sort of the most provocative part of it, ’cause she was called into court.

Courtney Revolution It was like we need those text messages, girl, between you and Blake Lively. And I’m not even sure what happened with that, but I know that

Louis Virtel It’s because you both have long hair. Like why?

Courtney Revolution *Laughs*  Here’s the thing. The movie came out, was the movie good?

Louis Virtel Who’s to say?

Courtney Revolution I don’t I’m I’m kinda glad that you have not seen it. I feel like the only one ever all of my friends are like, Oh my god, but I’ve seen it and and I’m like, But the this is

Louis Virtel It’s just not important.

Courtney Revolution That’s how I feel.

Louis Virtel Yeah. Blake Lively specializes in movies, I’m not gonna say.

Courtney Revolution I can’t tell you one Blake Lively movie I’ve seen. Last time I watched Blake Lively, she was with Gossip Girl.

Louis Virtel Well, I’ll say I did enjoy Blake Lively in The Age of Adeline, a crazy time travel movie where Ellen Burston played her granddaughter and Harrison Ford is in it. One of the rare times we pulled him out of whatever woodshed he spends his time in. Yeah. No, but like that is like one of those entertainment stories where the people that I felt were most opinionated about it were being informed by like Candace Owen’s podcast or otherwise don’t care about entertainment, period, but got sucked into this drama.

Courtney Revolution And what side, like is there a right side in this?

Louis Virtel I know right?

Courtney Revolution Because I honestly have just been like, I care so little about their beef that I don’t even know like people feel very passionately about either side. And I’m like, just leave Taylor out of it and we’re good.

Louis Virtel It reminded me of the Johnny Depp t Amber Heard situation where it’s like suddenly people who I’m positive had never heard of Amber Heard otherwise were like, sure, she should be like putting the Iron Maiden. You know.

Courtney Revolution You know the Iron Maiden. Here’s the thing. I hope there will be a resolution. Whatever the resolution is.

Louis Virtel I don’t care. Right. That’s just it. I don’t know where it would land. That feels good. No. Also, do you like the song We Need a Resolution by Aaliyah? Yeah. It’s so bad. Yeah, immediately I was like, wait, what?

Courtney Revolution From her last album. Yes. Shout out to Timberlin, but actually don’t. He had the TikTok of one of mine once a really long time ago, but the AI music stuff. Mmm. Bless ya. Yeah. You know what I am interested in?

Louis Virtel Go ahead. Love Island. A well as anybody who watches even one episode is. Like you get sucked in. Yeah. Do you know about Nicolandria? We had an episode where we got into that quickly. I saw the recap of Nicolandria, which was exhausting.

Courtney Revolution A beautiful love story crafted by production.

Louis Virtel Allegedly.

Courtney Revolution Love them both. Kim Kardashian was hanging out with Nic. Nic of Olandria.

Louis Virtel And Kim of All’s Fair.

Courtney Revolution Literally Kim of All’s Fair. Shout out to All’s Fair. And I guess she got on the phone with North because North is a really big Love Island fan. And instead of like fanning out and being like, oh my God, Nic, you’re shirtless with my mom, blah, blah, blah. Immediately North was like, and where is Olandria? And did you break up with her? Because the internet has been ablaze with these rumors that Nicolandria is like a PR relationship that is now over. The contract is up, allegedly. And, you know, Olandria is off to do her Vogue things and continue her career. And Nic is to DJ and hang out with Kim Kardashian and do the whole, you know, mom’s little meatball thing. That he has like a t-shirt that says like mom’s little meatball or something like that.

Louis Virtel I love how North West is just Courtney Revolution, just like calling and saying, but what about this? What about this thing that you’re supposed to have done?

Courtney Revolution I never felt so proud of a celebrity child because I was like, get to the goods. Like we don’t have time for oh my God, how are you? You’re gonna see Nic again. We need to know for the group chat is Nicolandria together? And were you the cause? If y’all broke up? And Nic said, Oh no, we’re together. It does I I didn’t break up with her.

Louis Virtel Meanwhile, y I feel like you can always detect when a couple is over. Like the media’s there or it’s not. You know what I mean? They were together a

Courtney Revolution lot in the beginning. And now it’s just like, oh, Olandria has the cover of blah blah blah. Oh Nic is hanging out with blah blah blah, but we don’t see them together.

Louis Virtel Yeah, the passion’s gone.

Courtney Revolution Even at the F1 weekend, it was like Alandry was over here with this brand and Nick was over here with this brand, but we never saw them. Even during downtime we never really saw them.

Louis Virtel That seems like confirmation to me. I also correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t feel like we’ve had much of a sense of North as a personality. So this was like a a great leap onto the page.

Courtney Revolution Outside of the TikTok, we don’t really know much about her. The TikTok and the fashion sense.

Louis Virtel Yeah.

Courtney Revolution ‘Cause she loves a good platform boot and she loves a teal hair moment.

Louis Virtel Oh, okay.

Courtney Revolution I said, okay.

Louis Virtel How very the hunger games.

Courtney Revolution Very hunger games.

Louis Virtel Yes.

Courtney Revolution I support you North West.

Louis Virtel Okay, what other celebrity gossip did we miss this year? Maybe that was all of it. I could be wrong. But shout us out in the comments. Tell us what disturbed you, riled you, entertained you, and we’ll be back with keep it. And we’re back with our favorite segment of the episode. It’s keep it. Courtney, you were born for this segment. Who are you saying keep it to?

Courtney Revolution I am going to say keep it to the fans of the television program Vanderpump Rules. Oh, what are they doing? Well, let me set the scene. Vanderpump Rules is a television program where a bunch of young people work for Lisa Vanderpump, but now they have aged out of the show because they’ve made their money and it’s time to move on to the valley. So Lisa Vanderpump said, Well, we’re not eliminating that stream of income. Here’s a new cast. And the audience immediately hates them. That’s a problem for me. Everybody has their first time on reality TV. Everyone gets their shot. And I would hate to be the fresh new face on one of the biggest shows on a network like Bravo and immediately be hated before the audience has even seen a full episode. People writing dissertations, making videos about how trash the show is, how awful it’s going to be. And then at BravoCon, I sit amongst my people, the Bravo Holics, and the episode was fantastic. It was great. I thought it captured a lot of the spirit and the energy of the original. And I really need the audience to let the kids have their moment. You’re 40. And maybe when Vanderpump Rules started, you were maybe like 30 something, late 20s. Maybe you’ve aged out and you need to let the kids have the stage and find their audience.

Louis Virtel Wow. You vendor pumped the shit out of them. Damn right. Oh my God. Let me just say, I have friends who work at Tom Tom. Is that one of her establishments? Yeah. These are people who aren’t even on the show. They are out of their motherfucking minds. I can’t believe they function in society. I also it’s like you go in there and it’s like the loudest club of all time and you’re trying to eat like a a popcorn shrimp or something. I don’t know. It’s like so manic.

Courtney Revolution Mm-hmm. 30 dollar cocktail?

Louis Virtel Yes, right. Play to flatbreads. So I’m just saying if my friends aren’t on this show and they’re that crazy, this cast must have something. Oh, it’s they’re giving.

Courtney Revolution Yeah, episode one. Like y’all might be a little bit certifiable and I need y’all to collect y’all coin.

Louis Virtel Thank you. What is your favorite Bravo show right now airing new episodes?

Courtney Revolution My favorite Bravo show right right now. Is the Bravo gays are gonna get me? I’m gonna have to choose between Real Housewives of Potomac and Salt Lake City, and I’m going to say Potomac.

Louis Virtel How come?

Courtney Revolution The reason why is because the star of the show, in my opinion, Karen Huger, was in jail during this last season that was taping. And the show has been the best it’s been without the leader. And to me, I think that’s what makes a great show. Like Salt Lake City’s fine. They’re also missing their leader, but she’s not coming back. She defrauded the elderly.

Louis Virtel Right.

Courtney Revolution And you know, they’re having a great season, but I don’t know, something about Potomac and Stacey’s on that show, my favorite Bravo liberties. So I mean, I’m gonna watch Stacy every week.

Louis Virtel Also, to our elder millennials out there, this is just like the show A Different World, where Lisa Bonnet was the lead, but then she left, and then the show got better. It can’t be explained.

Courtney Revolution It literally can’t be explained. We would never want Karen Huger to leave, but it’s damn the show is so good without her this season.

Louis Virtel Glad to hear it. Glad to hear it. My keep it this week is to a show we have discussed a lot already. It is to episode three of the show Heated Rivalry. Have you been watching Heavy Heated Rivalry? I haven’t, but I’ve been told that I need to be alone. Yes. With a lotion. Yes. Well, also, that’s but let me just say this is what’s concerning about this TV show. It is like very hot, sexy, or whatever. I don’t need to be watching something that’s hot and sexy that everyone is watching. Like to discuss something that hot with like your girlfriend or like, you know, your cousins or something is like so vile, you know? Is it graphic? You see some ass. Okay. Yeah, like it comes out at you in 3D. Is it more graphic than early 2000s queer as folk? About on par, from what I remember. Because I’m picturing the blonde kid on that show. I remember seeing his butt or Brian Cannon on that show. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, it’s also more actual sex than you get on that show, even though there are naked people on the show.

Courtney Revolution Okay.

Louis Virtel But you’re right, Showtime in the 2000s was a very special thing. But my keep it specifically is to episode three of this show. Okay, I can’t explain it. In the first two episodes, it is this pulpy romance between two closeted athletes. And I don’t I don’t know how they do it. I think by sheer virtue of the performances, it transcended the trappings of a of a gay rom-com. Like for it was like sexier than you expected and more fun than you expected. This episode, they move on to two different characters. It’s this other closeted hockey player and this barista he meets. And somehow it moved back into Hallmark territory. I don’t know what it is if the actors just don’t have as much chemistry, or it just felt like a storyline I had seen before. Cause honestly, there’s nothing really that compelling about I’m a closeted athlete and I find another hot guy and I can’t be open with him. I saw that on Degrassi. Precisely. It feels old. It feels like the 2000s. And I don’t, I don’t really know what it is about the first two episodes that didn’t feel dated, but this does feel dated, and I need them to get out of it because they’re losing.

Courtney Revolution Well, do we know how many episodes total it is?

Louis Virtel It’s like in the eightish territory, I believe.

Courtney Revolution Maybe like the next two. Right. Right.

Louis Virtel Right. And I need it I need to them to kick up the heat. Right. No. I wanna be sweating. I wanna look like, you know not the sweat. Yeah, right. No, I wanna look like I’m on hot ones at like and like the final five minutes.

Courtney Revolution I’m I need to watch this. Everyone has been like Courtney. This is like

Louis Virtel It I truly felt like I had no choice because it took over my algorithm so hard. It was like I need to make sense of just these pornographic esque images I’m seeing.

Courtney Revolution Sheesh, I’m glad I went to a hockey game last week or else I might have been in there like, where’s the heated rivalry up in here?

Louis Virtel Yeah. You know? Also, my my brother is a hockey stan. He met his wife on his own hockey blog. I just want to say that I’m so happy not to bring up this TV show to him. We will not be bonding over this television series. Jim, much as I love you, he lives in Copenhagen. Stay over there. We can’t breach this conversation. Stay over there. Stop. Courtney, thank you so much for being here today. You were a delight, and as you know, you have your marching orders. You’ll be watching Chicago before you get to your car. I will.

Courtney Revolution Be watching Chicago. That I one hundred percent will do.

Louis Virtel Where can we find you online if we want more of your insane ideas?

Courtney Revolution If you want more pop culture and sport style and mess with me, you can find me on Instagram at Courtney Revolution and on the tickety talkity at Court Revolution.

Louis Virtel Thank you so much for being here.

Courtney Revolution Thank you for having me.

Louis Virtel And thank you to the marvelous Diane Krueger for being her. Love her new show, Little Disasters. We will see you next week with, I believe, our last episode of the year. So get all your tears in order, Ariana Grande fans. That’s not how that song goes.

Courtney Revolution No tears left to cry.
