Director, Strategy and Business Development


Crooked Media is looking for a Director, Strategy and Business Development. You will help generate business opportunities by evaluating and developing meaningful relationships for the company. You will also work with senior leadership to discover, evaluate, and negotiate opportunities across departments including investments, partnerships, joint ventures, and other business development prospects, across podcasting, digital media, film, television and political partnerships. The ideal candidate has a strong background in both business development and legal affairs.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Partner with executives and department leads to discover, qualify, and negotiate potential opportunities across the company (Advertising, touring, talent, TV&Film, distribution).
  • Analyze and quantify growth strategy and new business development opportunities for Crooked Media.
  • Protect and support the integrity of Crooked Media IP in the drafting and development of production, talent, distribution, advertising, and other strategic agreements
  • Drive evaluation, articulation and presentation of Crooked Media’s key strategic initiatives for executives.
  • Assist in due diligence efforts and analysis for potential opportunities
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, growth opportunities and internal performance.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, with different stakeholders including content team, finance and legal
  • Execute special projects on behalf of business units, including film, TV, digital and social action teams.
  • Other duties / special projects as assigned.


Candidate must have:

  • B.A. required, M.B.A. a plus.
  • 4-6 years of experience in a prior business development role
  • Previous experience with podcasting, talent, production studios, advertising, distribution and/or tv development
  • Strong knowledge of IP law and an understanding of various entertainment contracts and  deal structures (e.g., option agreements, talent agreements, insertion orders)
  • Superior analytical skills and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Experience or interest in the media, digital and/or tech industries.
  • Strong executive-level presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering results in a cross-functional team setting.



Director, Media Partnerships (Sales)


Crooked is looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial Director, Media Partnerships who will develop, sell and execute creative native advertising opportunities against our our podcast and newsletter inventory. This position will report into the Chief Operating Officer. Candidate must have previous experience working with a diverse slate of inventory in consultative digital partnership sales or account management.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Lead internal Crooked sales efforts for all available Crooked ad inventory both direct to brands and via agencies
  • Serve as an internal advocate and primary point of contact for brand partners to ensure goals are met and surpassed with an emphasis towards maintaining long-term client satisfaction
  • Respond to all incoming requests and leverage your existing relationships to meet quarterly and yearly revenue targets
  • Partner with Crooked Media’s creative and production teams to integrate partnerships with programming; work closely with our ad operations team to ensure smooth executions
  • Manage the strategy, implementation and optimization of partnerships with major hosts and key stakeholders for shows and publishers
  • Track, analyze and communicate quantitative metrics and business trends as they relate to partners


Candidate must have:

  • 4+ years of experience in podcasting, media sales/buying, audience engagement, talent management and/or business development
  • Experience working with creative talent in high stakes scenarios
  • Project management experience, with experience leading and handling multiple time-sensitive, cross-functional projects on deadline
  • Must have previous presentation and client-facing experience in media



Manager, Human Resources


Crooked Media is looking for a Human Resources Manager. You will be responsible for building HR processes for both generalist and business partner support functions. The ideal candidate has worked in a digital media company or for a quickly growing startup environment. You can continue to foster Crooked’s kind, smart and creative culture, but you are also confident and comfortable managing difficult conversations.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Manage payroll, benefits, and compliance
  • Work with current staff to co-manage the onboarding process, new hire experience, and company culture
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook to stay current with new employment laws and address any new company policies
  • Work closely with executives and finance on organizational design and job architecture
  • Create a performance review process and manage employee relations
  • Serve as the key HR business partner for all departments
  • Design business and employee initiatives that support our short and long-term business goals, including driving practices that enable high performance and operational excellence
  • Provide counsel and guidance to all employees
  • Act as an executive coach for key clients and leaders; hold a high bar for leadership values and behaviours

Candidate must have:

  • Experience providing HR business partner support to finance, legal, or other business teams
  • Experience designing and implementing HR systems and processes

  • Experience with people data analytics; ability to influence with data
  • Master’s degree in HR, IR or similar field

Marketing Manager


Crooked Media is looking for a Marketing Manager. Manager will report to the VP, Head of Marketing.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Responsible for supporting scale of audience through paid media campaigns, SEO/keywords and targeting, integrated marketing, and platform optimization (social, website, podcast distribution and newsletter)
  • Analyzes audience metrics and make recommendations to boost visibility and engagement.
  • Support newsletter, social, website and podcast growth metrics
  • Develop, manage, and present weekly reports to understand overall and content-specific performance (newsletter, podcasts, social, website, etc.), analyze data, and synthesize findings and recommendations
  • Use knowledge of best practices and platform optimization to create recommendations and guidelines
  • Lead testing and innovation in digital marketing strategies to optimize Crooked traffic (paid media, SEM, e-mail marketing, etc.)
  • Develop and manage integrated marketing campaigns to promote growth and awareness (social, activism, newsletter, podcasts etc.)
  • Oversee paid media campaigns
  • Track and measure campaign metrics, offer insights and suggestions to optimize ROI
  • Create and oversee publishing operational systems such as Marketing calendar and promotional tracker

Development Manager


Crooked Media has an opening for a Development Manager based in Los Angeles, CA. The creative development team is tasked with discovering, developing, and piloting new projects across all media platforms for Crooked Media. We hustle to find new stories and talent, then connect with creators and hosts to bring the best possible version of a show to life that fulfills Crooked Media’s mission to inform, entertain and inspire our listeners.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and creative multi-tasker/problem-solver who is proactive about finding new voices and narrative stories and has a talent for spotting breakout development opportunities. This candidate must have previous experience in unscripted development, scripted development or production at an agency, studio, production company, television network or similar institution.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Sourcing and soliciting projects for development that fit the Crooked brand voice and development objectives
  • Tracking and evaluating treatments/pitches that are sent to the development team and identifying the most promising ones
  • Creating lists of potential producers, directors, writers, hosts, talent, and formats for Crooked projects, including acquisition opportunities
  • Working with internal and external creators to develop new show ideas and formats for Crooked and serving as a point of contact throughout the process
  • Project managing shows in the development process from initial conception through launch
  • Creating and maintaining lists, including internal tracking and development lists, available talent, new talent, and production schedules
  • Working with other departments at Crooked (design, social, marketing, studio, etc) to manage components needed for show launch
  • Doing regular surveys of existing programming outside of Crooked
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest news stories and trends in the podcast, television, and digital video industry

Candidate must have:

  • BA/BS degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • High level of proficiency in Keynote, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel

Social Media Manager


Crooked is looking for a Social Media Manager who will oversee and implement growth strategies on all social media channels (YT, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and others TBD). Manager will report to the Digital Content Director. Candidates must have experience building and distributing social content and developing audiences for brands or individuals.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Determine KPI’s for social channels and create clear paths to metrics goals
  • Develop a social media roadmap for Crooked that defines voice and guidelines; own all social media channels, handling everything from strategy to execution, analysis and reporting
  • Establish the distribution strategy for all self-published video, image-based, and editorial content on Crooked’s social media channels
  • Suggest and supervise repackaging of content assets to tailor to specific platforms
  • Ensure that Crooked branding standards and messaging are maintained across all platforms
  • Ensure that Crooked’s branding standards, messaging, and style guides are maintained
  • Project manage social content production by developing a Crooked social programming strategy and calendar; write and/or produce formats (ie. short form weekly social series)
  • Publish and manage daily social posts
  • Craft original and compelling initiatives to increase audience and engagement on channels and supervise the implementation of these initiatives
  • Apply creative thinking to the analysis of content trends and breaking news, events, etc – and how they can be utilized in Crooked’s social distribution strategy
  • Work with internal teams across Content and Design, to plan and publish the mix of original content and promotional content for Crooked brands
  • Develop real-time social campaigns and promotions plans around major tent pole events, trends and cultural milestones

Business Operations Internship


  • Inform critical business decisions by driving research and applying analysis to achieve insights on strategic business initiatives

  • Manage recurring tasks such as updating demographic charts, daily ad sales operations, maintaining tracking sheets, and disseminating daily reports

  • Develop frameworks for tackling complex strategic challenges, and develop ROI models to measure financial impact of key initiatives

  • Prepare and process expense reports and ensure accurate GL coding of invoices and assist with the company’s internal databases to ensure they are accurate and up to date

  • Provide general support with data-related projects, record-keeping of product titles, and other necessary functional requirements


Live Show / Writer’s Assistant Internship


  • Interns will act as a writer’s assistant for LOLI and Pod Tours America

  • Experience in comedy writing preferred, must be interested in comedy writing

  • Responsibilities include taking notes, printing and formatting cards, and helping write/rewrite jokes and segments

  • Interns will be both a contributing member of the creative staff but also need to have attention to detail and a willingness to help with some of the more menial production tasks that comes with running a live show

  • Availability at least Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Design / Production Internship


  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, with focus on Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects

  • Experience with cameras and shooting

  • A love of design, a passion for politics and a sense of humor

  • Creativity welcomed, production muscle also needed! (outlining with the pen tool, sourcing images and resizing assets will be an important part of the job)

Digital / Website Internship


  • Maintain and manage posting of daily content on crooked.com

  • Pull insights and best practices from all social platforms

  • Manage the planning and editing of social content, interacting with users, answering any questions and engaging in discussion when appropriate.

  • Introduce new ideas, marketing practices, platforms, and applications that will help keep our efforts ahead of the curve.

  • Provide day-to-day assistance with the execution of social media campaigns, live events, product releases, promotions, and additional content related activities.


Research / Development Internship


  • Assist in the daily operations of the development department

  • Keep track of incoming pitches and writing summaries and coverage

  • Maintain and track talent lists

  • Research new talent across all Crooked platforms

  • Willingness to assist other departments across Crooked (if necessary)

  • Ability to conduct research on current events, policy, and politicians quickly and efficiently

  • Willingness to stay up to date with news cycle, particularly elections
