Graphic Designer, Freelance


Crooked’s design team is growing and we need a talented freelance designer to create compelling visuals to help us win in 2020. We’re looking for a design generalist that enjoys working on a range of project types.


Day-to-day duties include but are not limited to:
• Work with Crooked’s design team across a variety of projects
• Design social assets to support our podcasts and brands
• Work with Crooked’s political team to create social and marketing assets based on our political calls to action
• Support senior staff in developing new brands
• Help create physical props and material for video
• Develop presentations and sales collateral
• Create merchandise for the Crooked Store

Candidate must have:
• 3-6 years of professional design experience
• An eye for composition, the ability to use type, great taste and an awareness of trends and styles
• The ability to visualize data / work with infographics
• A passion for politics and the ability to translate the news into visuals
• An interest in social media
• Able to use the Adobe Creative suite at a professional level
• Motion graphic and video editing skills are a plus

Managing Producer, Narrative


We’re looking for an experienced producer to join our development and production team, based in Los Angeles. This is an extremely varied role that will be tasked to help create new concepts, new formats and bring new voices to audio.

The Managing Producer, Narrative must be comfortable working on a wide variety of shows – from daily production to narrative documentary – and must switch between show formats with comfort and excitement. You’ll be involved in writing, editing and mixing and be trusted to listen for qualities that will captivate listeners.


Day-to-day duties include:

  • Brainstorm, research and shape concepts for new shows along with evaluating shows that are being pitched
  • Oversee Crooked communication with each project’s teams including hosts, production staff and researchers throughout development process
  • Oversee production calendar and budgets on behalf of Crooked, serve as connective tissue between Crooked and each shows production on all assigned shows
  • Provide timely and in depth edits on scripts and mixes on story structure, assist in writing when necessary
  • Plan field producing and reporting trips in collaboration with producers
  • Find, pre-interview, and book guests
  • Oversee the arranging for studio recordings and tape syncs and work with the finance team on budgets.

Candidate must have:

  • A minimum of four years of experience producing audio for radio or podcast
  • A journalism background
  • An ability to listen to raw tape, and identify the perfect details, the need-to-know plot points, and the need-to-hear moments that make a story
  • Experience scripting 15-20 minute audio stories
  • Proficiency in field recording
  • Proficiency in creating assemblies in ProTools
  • An eye for detail and self-direction




Production Management & Accounting 


Los Angeles based, Crooked Media, Inc., seeking an extremely detail oriented and organized professional with Production Management & Accounting experience to join our team. Candidate must be a team player and able to handle a high volume of paperwork quickly and accurately. Self-motivated and able to follow through on assigned responsibilities as well as able to think ahead and utilize problem-solving skills. Experience with corporate accounting/finance a plus.


Day-to-day duties include: 

  • Assisting Production with budget creation and projections. Create budgets and summaries that provide metrics and data that can be shared broadly to ensure cross functional alignment and well-informed decision making.
  • Partner with the cross functional teams to create and manage production schedules
  • Provide and present clear, accurate and timely production planning scenarios and analysis to both Producers and cross functional teams during the life cycle of a show/film/tv show/documentary.
  • Ascertain and solve budgeting and staffing issues.
  • Collaborate with Producers to quickly estimate and evaluate production health against milestones and data metrics.
  • Adapt to changing scenarios, anticipate problems and recommend solutions to creative executives and producers.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures for: 
    • Vendor and contractor setup 
    • Purchase Orders
    • Invoices and time-card approvals.
  • Review, reconcile, and submit invoices for payment
  • Executing and managing the actualization of production budgets on a weekly basis
  • Preparing and reviewing production related cost reporting as well as variance explanations
  • Contributing to the annual budget allocation process

Candidate must have:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Production Accounting, specifically working on Limited Time Series
  • Familiarity with the Podcast Industry in general, and specifically, Crooked Media programming
  • Proficient in basic office applications: Microsoft office (e.g. excel, word, PPT)
  • Proficient in production budget management
  • Experience with CA labor laws and entertainment payroll
  • Excellent multi-tasking and prioritizations skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of Broadcast, events or production
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven experience managing schedules and project resources to achieve desired results on time
  • Adaptable to changing business needs and expanded project requirements

Director, Human Resources


Crooked Media is looking for a Human Resources Director with experience across all HR functions. This position will be our first in-house human resources hire and will be responsible for building HR processes for both generalist and business partner support functions. The ideal candidate has worked in a digital media company or a quickly growing startup environment. We are looking for someone who can continue to foster Crooked’s kind, smart and creative culture, but who is also confident and comfortable managing difficult conversations.


Day-to-day duties include:

  • Manage payroll, benefits, and compliance
  • Work with current staff to co-manage the onboarding process, new hire experience, and company culture
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook to stay current with new employment laws and address any new company policies
  • Work closely with executives and finance on organizational design and job architecture
  • Create a performance review process and manage employee relations
  • Serve as the key HR business partner for all departments
  • Design business and employee initiatives that support our short and long-term business goals, including driving practices that enable high performance and operational excellence
  • Provide counsel and guidance to all employees
  • Act as an executive coach for key clients and leaders; hold a high bar for leadership values and behaviors
  • Influence and/or deploy practices to consistently increase and maintain employee engagement and satisfaction

Candidate must have:

  • 10+ years experience across various HR functions
  • Experience providing HR business partner support to finance, legal, or other business teams
  • Experience designing and implementing HR systems and processes
  • Experience with core HR domains, including performance management, organizational design, change management, talent management, compensation, and employee relations
  • Experience influencing and advising executive leadership on talent and employment matters
  • Experience with people data analytics; ability to influence with data
  • Master’s degree in HR, IR or similar field

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Assist in the daily operations of the development department
  • Keep track of incoming pitches and writing summaries and coverage
  • Maintain and track talent lists
  • Research new talent across all Crooked platforms
  • Willingness to assist other departments across Crooked (if necessary)
  • Conduct media landscape research
  • Clean up transcriptions of new episodes of current and various interviews for new and developing shows

  • An interest in and ability to stay up to date on politics, current events and pop culture

News & Research Internship


Day-to-day duties include: 

  • Assist in the daily operations of the news/politics departments
  • Conduct research on current events, policies, and politicians quickly and efficiently
  • Track the news cycle, particularly political news and election news
  • Compile information for podcast segments and compose briefs about upcoming podcast guests
  • Fact check and copy edit daily newsletter

Ideal candidates have:

  • Good research skills and strong writing skills

Business Operations & Sales Internship


Day-to-day duties include: 

  • Inform critical business decisions by driving research and applying analysis to achieve insights on strategic business initiatives
  • Manage recurring tasks such as updating demographic charts, daily ad sales operations, maintaining tracking sheets, and disseminating daily reports
  • Develop frameworks for tackling complex strategic challenges, and develop ROI models to measure financial impact of key initiatives
  • Prepare and process expense reports and ensure accurate GL coding of invoices and assist with the company’s internal databases to ensure they are accurate and up to date
  • Provide general support with data-related projects, record-keeping of product titles, and other necessary functional requirements

Design & Marketing Internship


Day-to-day duties include:

  • Creative input and drafting of visual materials for merch and social media
  • Assist in cross promotion coordination / tracking 
  • Coordinate packaging of promotional assets for guest promotion, gifting, etc. 
  • Research best vendors/partners for influencer/guest gifting
  • Assist with. social, podcast & digital reporting, as needed 
  • Work with Director of Marketing to manage merch development and release timelines 
  • Help manage weekly tour promotional calendar
  • Taking notes at meetings for later implementation

Ideal candidates have:

  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • A love of design, a passion for politics and a sense of humor
  • Creativity welcomed, production muscle also needed! (outlining with the pen tool, sourcing images and resizing assets will be an important part of the job)
  • Familiarity with a social media
  • An interest/background in copywriting and marketing (products, live events, shows)


Writer’s Assistant & Research Internship


Day-to-day duties include:

  • Compile and organize joke pitches and research
  • Assist at live shows, distributing microphones and gift cards, setting up and accommodating guests
  • Help shape script prior to show
  • Taking notes, printing and formatting cards, and helping write/rewrite jokes and segments. 
  • Write guest briefs for hosts ahead of interviews
  • Provide background research on segments of the week
  • Pitch topics for discussion

Ideal candidates have:

  • Experience in comedy writing preferred, must be interested in comedy writing
  • Have attention to detail and a willingness to help with some of the production tasks that come with running a live show
  • Have a pulse on what is happening in pop culture and politics
  • Ability to work Thursday evenings
