Director of Finance and Accounting

Reporting to the COO, the VP, Finance and Accounting is responsible for planning, directing and controlling Crooked Media’s financial resources and cash flow.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Proactively lead and influence the annual operating plan, quarterly forecast, and quarterly pacing which includes heavy excel modeling and consolidation, presentation work, thought-partnership, and in-depth scenario analysis for company executives
  • Lead all accounting functions, including cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, inventory, royalties, revenue, GL, and all regulatory reporting requirements
  • Evolve and improve corporate planning processes to yield higher quality work products with greater efficiency across the entire organization
  • Oversee all finance and accounting external vendors and firms
  • Review all legal agreements, rev share, revenue recognition, etc.
  • Apply strong business judgment through analysis of plans and proactively manage risk
  • Develop a high level financial and strategic understanding of all operations, cost centers, key KPIs, balance sheet, cash flow, treasury

Candidates must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or another quantitative field required
  • 7+ years of progressive work experience in accounting and finance
  • CPA (doesn’t need to be Active)
  • Experience scaling either start ups or media is required, both is a plus
  • Strong technical and modeling skills; extensive experience with Excel required
  • Critical thinking skills, depth of analysis, and ability to easily contextualize hypothetical business situations required
  • Ability to lead process, gain trust, and influence key stakeholders and decision makers
  • Fluency with Netsuite and ERP is a plus

 

Producer

 

We are looking to hire an LA-based producer who would be responsible handling logistics and production across several of our current podcasts.

The ideal candidate must have a clear idea of the Crooked brand, experience booking talent and producing podcasts from soup to nuts. The candidate must work well with small groups and be hands on throughout process. Candidate must understand that strong editorial ethics are the top priority in all Crooked-driven projects.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Oversee master booking for assigned podcasts
  • Leading editorial meetings, pitching and developing ideas for shows
  • Serve as point person on select Crooked current podcasts when necessary.
    • Duties would include liaising with our production support to book studio time
    • Working with hosts and producers on arranging any necessary elements to complete episodes (i.e. research, video + visual assets)
    • Liaising with the sales team to ensure hosts have pertinent ad copy for each show
    • Liaise with editor on notes and edits for final cut
    • Make sure social media team has everything necessary to support and promote each show

Candidates must have:

  • 2+ years of radio, TV, or podcast production
  • Experience managing live events and / or location shoots
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
  • A passion and day-to-day interest in politics and the news
  • A self-motivated, proactive, creative, accountable and nice attitude

 

 

Pod Save The People Producer / Editor

 

We are looking to hire a part-time producer/editor based in Washington DC or NYC who would be responsible for handling logistics and editorial for Pod Save the People.

The ideal candidate must have a clear idea of the Crooked brand and Pod Save the People, experience booking talent and producing podcasts from soup to nuts. Candidate must understand that strong editorial ethics are the top priority in all Crooked-driven projects.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Editorial support with show structure and layout
  • Liaising with hosts, keeping up with host schedules and organizing logistics for recording
  • Work with hosts to deliver title, description and show notes each week
  • Booking guests and must be willing to support key interviews in person
  • Research for the host and guest prep
  • Liasing with our production support to book studio time
  • Liaising with the sales team to ensure hosts have pertinent ad copy for each show.
  • Making sure social media team has everything necessary to support and promote each show
  • Editing the show week-to-week for content and time

Candidates must have:

  • 2+ years of radio, TV, or podcast production
  • 3+ years experience with audio editing
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Access to appropriate auditing and editing software
  • Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
  • A passion and day-to-day interest in politics and the news
  • A self-motivated, proactive, creative, accountable and nice attitude

 

 

Junior Graphic Designer

 

Do you have a knack for visual communication? Are you quick on your feet? Do you mind sharing a bathroom with 14 other people? If you answered ‘yes’ about the bathroom, you may have a promising future at Crooked Media!

We are seeking an LA-based, full-time graphic designer to support a growing design team that’s working to evolve how we respond and shape politics. The ideal candidate must be able to handle multiple tasks that respond to an unpredictable news cycle and work well on a team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting senior design staff conceiving and producing social graphics, motion graphics packages, merchandise designs, and podcast graphics
  • Using the Crooked style guide to prepare digital assets from sourced images
  • Supporting senior design staff in responding to the news cycle with infographics and share graphics that convey Crooked analysis on the news
  • Helping to evolve the look and feel of Crooked’s digital products, including podcasts, articles, microsites, the Crooked newsletter, the merchandise store, and more

Must have:

  • 2-4 years experience creating digital graphics in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects specifically)
  • Familiarity with data visualization design
  • Passion for news and politics
  • The ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong organizational skills and an awareness of deadlines
  • Willingness to accept and respond to feedback
  • A sense of design humor

Business Operations Intern

 

We’re looking for a self-motivated intern who can help us do the following:

  • Inform critical business decisions by driving research and applying analysis to achieve insights on strategic business initiatives.
  • Develop frameworks for tackling complex strategic challenges, and develop ROI models to measure financial impact of key initiatives.
  • Prepare and process expense reports and ensure accurate GL coding of invoices and assist with the company’s internal databases to ensure they are accurate and up to date.
  • Provide general support with data-related projects, record-keeping of product titles, and other necessary functional requirements.

 

Social Media Intern

 

We’re looking for a self-motivated intern who can help us do the following:

  • Maintain and grow social media channels including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube.
  • Manage the planning and editing of social content, interacting with users, answering any questions and engaging in discussion when appropriate.
  • Introduce new ideas, marketing practices, platforms, and applications that will help keep our efforts ahead of the curve.
  • Provide day-to-day assistance with the execution of social media campaigns, live events, product releases, promotions, and additional content related activities.
